-HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT THE ATLANTA WOOD FOUNDATION-

MONETARY DONATIONS

To operate a Nonprofit, monetary donations are essential, especially in the formative years we are in. These donations help pay facility rent, utilities, much-needed equipment, and eventually employee salaries. We are all working on a volunteer basis. Monetary donations are a lifeline for Nonprofit organizations!

TREE DONATIONS

With your donation of a tree(s), you will receive a receipt for a tax deduction based on the amount of usable lumber that the tree can supply. AWF does not cut down trees, that will need to be done by a licensed tree company. They would then deliver the logs (maximum diameter is 36”, minimum 14”) to our warehouse on Memorial. AWF needs to be notified to arrange any deliveries so they know where to drop the logs and so we can confirm they are millable. We are able to make some pick-ups, but those are harder to schedule as we volunteer our time and work career jobs during the week. When enough notice is given, we can time it to have our trailer there when the tree service is removing the tree and can load it on our trailer.

Please note that we will not be able to accept every tree/log offered up for donation, for a number of reasons: size restraints (see above in bold), inaccessibility, wood rot, an infestation of insects, lodged foreign objects (nails/screws/fencing), etc. We would like to save them all, but due to space and production limitations, it simply is not possible. We don’t want to be overwelmed with one type of species that we can't sell enough of. We need a variety of species to offer our local woodworking community. We are happy to discuss donations on a case-by-case basis.

How Donating Your Tree Helps

Living in Georgia, we all know that there are many reasons trees come down. Storm season brings down so many in our local neighborhoods, especially old Oaks and Pine trees. A number of insects and pests can quickly kill trees; clearing land for development, etc... When a tree company comes to take them down, far too often, those trees end up in a city dump. Branches and small pieces may become mulch, but usually, the body is taken to rot in a dump or landfill. If it’s a lucky tree, it might be turned into firewood. That is a tragic waste of a beautiful natural resource that could have become useful lumber. This is the number one reason we wanted to start the Atlanta Wood Foundation.
